College Students Send Relief Materials to U’khand

 

Tirunelveli, July 19, 2013: Students of Sadakkathulla Appa College, who collected relief materials worth Rs.60, 000, sent them to the flood-ravaged Uttarakhand on Thursday.

The materials – 300 kg of wheat flour, 100 torch lights, 75 sets of stainless steel vessels, 50 kg of rice, bandage cloth, towels and bed linen, were packed in 22 cartons. They were handed over to R.Shanthakumar, Superintendent of Posts, Tirunelveli Division, as the Department of Posts has announced that it would send relief materials to the flood victims of Uttarakhand free of cost. Principal M.Mohamed Sathiq handed over the relief materials.

The Tamil Nadu Federation of Voluntary Association sent a consignment of clothes to the flood-affected persons in Uttarakhand on Thursday.

The association runs a clothes bank to collect used and unused clothes and distributes them to orphans, poor people, beggars and mentally-challenged persons. “The initiative to set up the bank was taken by the then Kanyakumari Collector Rajendra Ratnoo in 2010. Through the bank, we distribute lakhs of clothes to needy people not only in Kanyakumari district but all over India,” said association president H.Giftson.

The association had also been collecting medicines to be sent to the flood-affected, said secretary R.Arul Kannan. Those who want to donate clothes and medicines could contact the association on 94446 91456 or 99444 23890.
