All Set for Sakambari Festival

Vijayawada, July 19, 2013: Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam has made all arrangements for the three-day Sakambari festival from Saturday.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Devasthanam Executive Officer K. Prabhakara Srinivas said that the presiding deity goddess Kanaka Durga would be decked up with fruits and vegetables during the festival (on Ashada suddha trayodasi, chaturdasi and Pournami as per Telugu calendar). The Vijayawada Wholesale Vegetable Merchants’ Welfare Association members have come forward to donate vegetables. The devotees have also come forward to donate fruits such as pineapple, orange, grapes (both black and white), pomegranate, water melon, muskmelon, papaya, albakara (plums) and apples, he said.

The EO said that the donations and vegetables would be accepted. For further details, the devotees could contact the information centre located on Indrakeeladri, he added.

Temple sthanacharya Sivaprasada Sarma said the festival would begin with vigneswara pooja, punyahvachana, akhanda deeparadhana, ankurarpana, vastu homam, kalasa sthapana, etc. would be organised on first day. Saptasati parayana, moola mantra havan, mahavidya parayana etc would be some of the rituals conducted on second day.

The saptasathi parayana, maha vidya paryaana, santhi poushtika homam, etc. are scheduled to be organised on third day marking the end of celebrations.
