Photo Exhibiton Organized by ICCR

July 10, 2013: Temple images of lord Shiva dancing on the head of an elephant, Vishnu sleeping on the coils of a naga, Krishna subduing Kaliya Naga — this and many more images from the Shikhareshwar temple in Cambodia form the basis of photographer Tarun Vijay’s exhibition. Titled, Kailash in the East, theexhibition has 50 photographs on display and is organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR)“The temple’s magical architecture is what attracted me to visit the place,” says Vijay, adding, “We get to see millennium-old cultural relations through these images.” The exhibition, according to the organisers, is the first ever attempt to unravel the mystic beauty of this temple that was built between the ninth and the 12th century. "Vijay’s exhibition traces the interesting archeological links between the temples in India and Indo-China as well as South East Asia. The traditions of Hindu culture, continue to be an integral part of daily life in that region and the exhibition is an articulate testimony to these strong links” says Suresh K Goel, director, ICCR. On the opening day of the exhibition, there is also a Carnatic music concert by Madras String Quartet. The performance demonstrates how music can become the bridge between different cultures and different traditions, removing boundaries.
