Vodafone’s Initiative for the Warkaris

Pune, July 9, 2013: Vodafone India, one of India’s leading telecom service providers, recently announced an initiative to help lakhs of pilgrims undertaking the annual padayatra from Dehu to Pandharpur.

Starting from Saswad, Vodafone has deployed two ‘Vodafone Mobile Trucks’ that will travel with the Warkaris all through their journey to Pandharpur to help them remain connected.

The ‘Vodafone Mobile Trucks’ are equipped with mobile phone charging points, recharge vouchers and free calling facilities to help the Warkaris stay in touch with their loved ones throughout the duration of their arduous trek.

The Warkaris will be able to make use of the facilities at all halting points of the Palkhi between Saswad to Pandharpur.

Understanding the needs of devotees of Lord Vitthala and the enormous interest that the annual Pandharpur yatra invokes amongst followers across Maharashtra and Goa circle, Vodafone has also launched a special VAS offering.

As a part of this VAS offering, customers can listen to bhajans dedicated to Lord Vitthala, view a virtual aarati of the Lord at the revered Pandharpur temple, know about the history behind the Pandharpur yatra and the traditions of the Warkaris.

The service can be availed for INR 1/min. Vodafone pre-paid and post-paid customers in Maharashtra and Goa can call 56789 to know more about this service offering.

Speaking about the initiative Ishmeet Singh, Business Head – Maharashtra & Goa, Vodafone India, said, “With the ‘Vodafone Mobile Trucks’ initiative, we aim to help Warkaris remain connected with their family and friends.

"The Warkaris can depend upon Vodafone’s reliable network to help them keep connected throughout the 15 day journey. We hope that this initiative will help in enhancing the spiritual experience of the Warkaris.”
