Kalamandala Dharwad Does its Bit to Help U’khand Flood Vics.

Dharwad, July 9, 2013: ‘Art for Humanity’, a charity show organised by the Kalamandala Dharwad to support the victims of the Uttarakhand floods, was received well by the public here. The five-day event held on the Aditya Mayura Resort premises concluded here on Sunday.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony Kalamandala secretary and artist Madhu Desai said the charity event had fetched Rs. 1 lakh. Nearly 70 per cent of the exhibits on sale were sold.

The money collected thus would be donated to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, he said.

Helping hand

Artists across the country had extended a helping hand to the flood victims by putting up their works for sale, and donating the proceeds to the relief work, he added.

Over 50 artists of national and international repute displayed their works in the event, including Gayatri Desai from Dharwad, Ramadas Adyanthaya of Mysore, Ramachandra Karat of Maharashtra and V.G. Andani of Gulbarga.

The event also provided an opportunity for art lovers from the region to buy reasonably-priced paintings. The event would also make the buyers feel satisfied, as they had directly contributed to the aid of the flood victims.

Target

“Paintings were sold at highly concessional prices. We kept all kinds of artworks for sale, with a price range from Rs. 500 to Rs. 30,000, to allow people from all walks of life to participate and contribute to a noble cause. We had set a target of Rs. 1 lakh,” the Kalamandala secretary stated.
