Marauders Stumble upon a Sivalingam While Digging for Treasures

Nalgonda, July 2, 2013: In the continuing saga of treasure hunters destroying historical places in the district to extract hidden wealth, one more incident was reported from Rachakonda hillocks close to Samsthan Narayanpur.

According to reporters, unidentified miscreants with the help of proclain reportedly dug historical Rachakonda hillocks close to the fort. While digging the place in search of treasure, the miscreant found a six-feet-long Sivalingam, which was covered with leaves and plants.

Local residents brought to the notice of the village servants the indiscriminate digging of hillocks. Samsthan Narayanpur Tahsildar M. Jayamma lodged a complaint with the local police. The local police began a search in the hillocks and came across the idol and nabbed some persons allegedly involved in digging the area. Though, the incident occurred on June 26, it came to light only on Sunday.

As the word spread about the discovery of centuries old Sivalingam, local residents made a beeline to the place and offered prayers.

Munugode MLA V. Yadagiri Rao too visited the area. Villagers complained to the local MLA that miscreants continued to scout the area for treasure and were indulging in digging the hillocks.

Sources said police had picked up six persons in connection with the digging. They include family members of a former sarpanch, who tried to help out some Hyderabad-based persons in searching for treasure.
