Deity Inauguration at Knoxville Hindu Temple

Knoxville (U.S.), June 30, 2013: Hundreds of people from the East Tennessee Hindu community on Saturday celebrated the religious event Prana Pratistha, which is the inauguration of a deity into a Hindu Temple.

In order for a temple to put in a new idol, they must pray and say mantras to let it breath, also known as "prana", to give it life.

During the ceremony the idol was also prepared with rice and oils and decorated with jewels.

The Hindu Community Center of Knoxville is the only one of its kind for more than 100 miles.
