Sri Sathya Sai Trust to Rebuild Flood-Hit, Pulverised Lives in Uttarakhand

Visakhapatnam, June 28, 2013: Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, which has extended relief work through its units based at various places for Uttarakhand flood victims, has decided to undertake rehabilitation measures, rebuild damaged villages and take care of orphaned children.

A spokesman for the trust said that recognising that there were already several government agencies performing hazardous relief work, they would not wish to rush too many volunteers to the calamity-hit State.

He said keeping in mind the enormity of the task, the Sai Organisation was planning to adopt some of the badly affected villages for holistic rehabilitation. A full survey of the selected villages will be made.

“Our emphasis will be on rebuilding thousands of shattered lives rather than doing anything dramatic at this time when our Army Jawans are performing such outstanding relief work,” the spokesman said.

Round Table gesture

Vizag Round Table 77, set up in 1983, has mobilised Rs.3.19 lakh and donated it to Round Table India’s National Calamity Fund for relief and rehabilitation work in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.

Round Table in association with organisations like Indian Medical Association is also extending relief work to the flood victims. Boxes containing essential commodities have been rushed and in the next phase, the organisation wants to ensure more relief supplies once all roads are cleared, said Vizag Round Table 77 chairman Y. Raghu.
