U.P. to Settle Rs. 350 Crores Dues to Uttarakhand

Lucknow, June 27, 2013: Uttar Pradesh will transfer the entire amount of Rs. 350 crore, due on the State by way of expenditure incurred on pension to government staff, to the Uttarakhand government, said Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday.

Mr. Yadav said that in 2009-10, U.P. had a liability of Rs. 350 crore to be paid to the Uttarakhand government following the division of expenditure incurred on pension benefits of the State employees. It had been decided that the amount would be paid in instalments, but after the recent tragedy it was decided that the entire amount would be transferred to Uttarakhand, Mr. Yadav said.

The amount forms a component of the division of assets between the two States following the creation of Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister also announced an ex gratia of Rs. 20 lakh each to the next of the kin of Junior Warrant Officer Akhilesh Kumar Singh from Amethi district and Sergeant Sudhakar Yadav from Sant Kabir Nagar district who were among the 20 Air Force killed in Tuesday’s helicopter crash in the hill State.

Mr. Yadav said a proper funeral would be given to victims whose bodies had been recovered from the Ganga.
