Mantralayam Math to Endorse 3 Flood Hit Villages in U’khand

Mantralaya (A.P.), June 26, 2013: Sri Raghavendra Math in Mantralayam, Andhra Pradesh, plans to adopt three flood-hit villages in Uttarakhand as part of its three-phased relief and rehabilitation programme Samraksha. Sri Subudhendra Teertha, junior pontiff, who has recently been appointed as successor of the math, shared the details of the programme at a press conference held at the main math in Mantralayam on Tuesday.

“We have planned a three-phase relief and rehabilitation work for flood victims of Uttarakhand. In the first phase, we are distributing essential relief material such as food, clothing and medicines at our Delhi branch, and helping victims reach their homes. In the second phase, we will establish the Samraksha relief camp in Haridwar for rescue and post-rescue tasks. We will provide temporary shelter and relief material. In the third phase, we will adopt as many as three worst flood-hit villages and revamp them. This would take place with the help of various donors,” Subudhendra Teertha said. Officer G. Kishan Rao has been appointed as nodal officer for the implementation of the programme, he added.

A committee has been formed to oversee the relief work. Sri Suyateendra Teertha Swami, the head of the math, is honorary chairman; Subudhendra Teertha, honorary vice-chairman; and M.N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of Supreme Court, will be its president.
