Gurudwara Committee Extends Its Support to Uttarakhand Victims

New Delhi, June 24, 2013: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has reached out to those affected by flash floods in Uttarakhand and has flown the third consignment of relief material to the calamity-hit State. The DSGMC has also deployed 10 buses to bring back the stranded pilgrims from the State.

DSGMC president Manjit Singh G.K. said five relief camps have also been set up by and buses have been arranged by the Committee to ensure that those stranded in Uttarakhand could return to their homes in comfort.

DSGNC joint secretary Harmeet Singh Kalka said the committee has set up camps at Joshimath, Srinagar, Gochar Helipad, Gobind Ghat and Rishikesh where its members are stationed with relief material, medicines and money to assist the flood victims. He said while Tata Sumo vehicles have been deployed by the Committee to bring people from all parts of the State to Rishikesh, buses have been pressed into service to ferry them from Rishikesh to their homes. Already 10 buses have started for Delhi from Rishikesh, he said.

Mr. Manjit Singh said senior Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Kuldip Singh Bhogal has flown to Dehra Dun with a planeload of relief supply. Apart from food material, medicines and footwear have also been sent through this aircraft.

So far the Committee has sent relief material by three planes and two trucks and 21 buses have been utilised for bringing the stranded pilgrims back to Delhi, he said.
