Vivekananda Gets a Monument to His Name

Nagercoil, June 24, 2013: To commemorate Narendranath Dutta alias Swamy Vivekananda’s induction into the Freemason of India as a member on February 19, 1884, it was decided to inaugurate a monument for him within the premises of the Vivekananda Kendra on August 31, said the Regional Grand Master, R. Susil Raj. He told The Hindu that the region consisted of six states — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Puducherry — with the membership of 9,000 persons. This was the biggest region in India.

“We are proud to say that as many as 150 villages, which are not still accessible to government employees in different parts of the country, particularly a remote village in Wayanad in Kerala, got electricity with the provision of solar panels. The maintenance charge had also been entrusted with a few private organisations — the well wishers of the Freemason of India. The Universal Brotherhood Day would be celebrated at the Vivekananda Kendra at Kanyakumari on June 24, said Mr. Susil Raj.
