Mumbai Docs to the Rescue of Pilgrims in Uttarakhand

MUMBAI: Independent medical teams from the city will leave for Uttarakhand for relief work.

Doctors as well as paramedical staff will set up camps in Rishikesh and Amarnath to help the survivors.

'Doctors for You', a humanitarian organization from the city, is setting up a medical relief camp in Rishikesh. Another team of doctors and nurses from Zynova Heartcare, Ghatkopar, is trying to figure out a way to reach the area where Amarnath pilgrims are stranded.

"Doctors for You plans to reach out to villages cut off from the outside world and start health and hygiene operations," said Dr Ravikant Singh, president of the organization.

Dr Ashish Tiwari, CEO of Zynova Hospital said that providing medical aid is more important than evacuation. "In the first round we will deploy three critical care doctors with three nurses and three other staff, which will be periodically replaced by other team members. All we need is logistic support of choppers so that we can reach to the areas where people are trapped," he said.
