The South-West monsoon entered Andhra Pradesh on Monday causing heavy rain at several places in Rayalaseema region.

The arrival of monsoon in the State three days in advance raised high hopes among the people all over the State and the government. The early arrival went against the prediction made by India Meteorological Department that its arrival, indeed, would be three days behind the normal time.

On the first day, a heavy rainfall of 6 cm battered Tirumala Hills while Satyavedu, Owk and Gooty received each 4 cm. Several other places in Rayalaseema also reported rain of that order. Rain, however, was moderate at Anantapur (3 cm) and Jammalamadugu, Rayachoti, Kadapa, Lakkireddypalli, Kalakada and Utukuru (all 2 cm each).

In contrast, Coastal Andhra received only moderate rain. Cumbum recorded 2 cm, Guntur and Bapatla 1 cm each.

In Telangana, many places in Nizamabad district reported rain. Mednoor, Armoor recorded 4 cm each and Navipet 3 cm.

Chittoor, Anantapur, Kurnool, Kadapa, Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna and East Godavari districts which boiled in peak summer heat till the other day, have been warned of heavy rain on Tuesday.
