TTD dumps liquor worth Rs. 2 lakh

The vigilance sleuths of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) dumped 1.60 lakh millilitres of liquor seized at the Alipiri security check point, the gateway to Tirumala hills, on Tuesday. The seized liquor was valued at Rs. 2 lakh.

As liquor, cigarette and meat products are banned on the hills, the TTD authorities normally seize the same at the security point. The visitors from far-off places, who are not aware of the TTD rules, are also given the option of going back to preserve the same in their rooms if they so desired before proceeding to Tirumala, but many voluntarily hand it over to the sleuths. The stock seized during the months of March, April and May, 2013 and stacked in a room near the check point was destroyed in the presence of top officials of the excise and vigilance departments.

The glass bottles were smashed, while the liquor in plastic containers were poured out.
