Palanquin of flowers festival in Ulsoor begins

 

Ulsoor  April 27, 2014: Preparations have begun for the ‘Poo Pallaki’, or annual car festival, at Someshwara temple in Ulsoor. The event is scheduled to begin on Saturday at midnight.

R. Parthasarathy, a priest at the temple, said, “Close to five lakh flowers will be used for the decorations. The jasmine buds are ordered from Chennai. It takes 500 kg of flowers and nearly 100 people to get the palanquin ready,” he said. Deities of 68 temples across the city will take part in the event, he added.

Traffic restrictions

According to a press release from the city traffic police, vehicle movement from Old Madras Road (OMR) to Trinity junction via Swamy Vivekananda Road is prohibited from 5 a.m. of April 26 till the end of the celebrations on April 27. Also, vehicle movement from Begum Mahal junction to Bazaar Street, Cambridge Road, Jogupalya Road has been banned.

Motorists going from Begum Mahal to Bazaar Street should take Gurudwara Junction, Yallamma Temple Road, Murphy Town Road, Tamarai Kannan Road.

Those going from Kamadhenu Junction to Ramaiah Circle should pass through Trinity Circle, Old Airport Road, C B Junction.

Vehicles going from M.G. Road to K.R. Puram, Byappanahalli, Indira Nagar and J.B. Nagar should take Kensington Road and Murphy Road to reach OMR. Vehicles coming from K.R. Puram, Indiranagar and J.B. Nagar should pass through Kensington Road, MEG Gate, Anna Mudaliyar Road, Dickenson Road to reach M.G. Road.
